I come across various objects of great rarity made of bog oak in my native village quite often. Long-livers told me a few unique ancient methods of bog oak extraction from the river bottom. I wanted to find an ancient photo depicting this process, but I was not successful for a long time. However, an opportunity turned up. During the war in 2022, the city of Chernihiv was heavily shelled by the Russian army, many civilians were killed, and I had to evacuate my family to my native village of Kerbutivka. My son Illia went to school in the neighboring village of Novi Mlyny. He was given a book at the school library written by our fellow countryman H.I. Horbonis. There I caught sight of a photo of 1947 showing a very simple ancient method which was used by our ancestors to pull huge bog oaks out of the Seim River.
